Coffee Date

Is it Friday again already?  How did that happen so quickly?  And it's March  already?  Really?  Would you like to sit down for coffee with me?

If we were having coffee...

...I would tell you that we are having company this weekend and so today is once again going to be spent cleaning and organizing.  I have been so busy this week and on the go so much that even though things around here are not a complete disaster, they definitely need a once-over.

...I would show you proof that I should probably not be allowed in the library week after week.  I brought a huge stack of books back this week, so proud to be bringing back probably half of what I had checked out over the course of a few weeks, and I think I came out with more than I returned.  I'm particularly interested in French Women Don't Get Fat, which talks about how European women don't have this food guilt that American women do.  I'm also happy to report that I just found out it's a blog, too.  I think I'll register and find out how French I am.  I doubt it's very much.

...I would also tell you I am in the middle of this book, and so far it's really good.  The author changes cities and no longer has a local best friend, and sets out in search of a new one.  It's so interesting because it highlights just how hard it is for women to find a close female friend, especially after you leave a school setting.  Sami just did a great post on the exact same thing yesterday, which seemed like fate.  It is so hard to find a good girlfriend after you move, get married, have a family, etc, especially if you are shy and introverted and don't put yourself out there.  I sometimes wish I had a close circle of girlfriends to hang out with, but I don't.

...I would thank you if you left a comment on Monday's post.  It makes me feel so good that I am not the only one who is annoyed by so much of what is put out there on the Internet.  And really, it's not just bloggers; it's the mass media, too.  They report the most inane, nonsense stories, there is no fact checking, and half of the "news" is later found out to be untrue or falsely reported, except the damage is already done.  Where's the responsibility?

...I'd tell you that two of my recent crafty aspirations have been to learn to knit and to make soap.  I can officially tell you now that neither of those are going to happen.  Knitting isn't so bad but I realize that I have no patience to sit and learn different stitches in order for things to look good, and I just haven't been enjoying it.  I'll finish the scarf I started but that will probably be it.  As for soap, I love the look and feel and smell of handmade soap.  It's loveliness in a bar.  I will also tell you that it takes a lot of ingredients (a few caustic) and lots of careful measuring and researching and trial-and-error to make soap.  Not going to happen.  Maybe one day, but for now, these ideas are on the back burner.

...I'd thank you for your patience with me as I went a little style-crazy the past two weeks, as it's not my norm.  I am slightly obsessed with working on my look, though, so I am happy to have tricks and tips and great suggestions from you all.  I feel like I may actually be on the edge of the pulled-together look I've always wanted.  The one things I've come to notice, though, is that confidence and comfort with yourself shows, and it's more than just the clothing you put on.  The right style may make you look nice, but confidence in yourself and not caring what people think of you just gives you that "it".  And that is something I really need to work on.

...I'd ask you if you had any questions for me?  I spend a lot of time writing about what I want to write about (since it is my blog and all), but I got to wondering if you had questions for me. Something you've always wondered, perhaps, but never had the opportunity to ask?  If you have one, feel free to ask it here.  It's totally anonymous, and I'll try and answer them on Coffee Date Fridays.

...I would tell you that I'm so happy that you hang out and chat with me each week.  I'd ask what was new with you and if you had any good plans for the weekend.  I have some good things in store, and I'm excited to share with you on Monday!

  3. I would tell you that I, too, tried to knit once upon a time. I actually had to do it for a prompt in a writing class (we had to teach ourselves something), and it was kind of boring. Haven't done it since.

I would tell you that I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed with work and school.

I would tell you that I'm really excited about all of these French books we've been talking about lately. Bringing Up Bebe was really good, so now I'm ready to read something else!

  5. I keep your blog up alot so when you see someone in your stats with like a 30min time on your blog..it's most likely me. I would say thanks for your advice yesterday and as you can see I took it. I had to work quickly with getting the photos up because they are due tomorrow plus I was excited so I got my ass in gear.

I would say..knitting is not for everyone. It took me a while to get the hang of it and then when I did I was addicted. I was knitting like 5 hats a month. I knit at work so that helps alot. I would say I have to check out the MWF seeks BFF because I'm in that situation minus the married white female part. I've been in c'ville for 3 years and I've only made friends with 2 people. I have other people I know but I only hang out with 2 girls and then my other friend she can't seem to hang out unless her boyfriend is around. (weird..yes I know). My bestfriend thinks I should make more friends but it's just too exhausting. I speak more to my blogger friends than I do to the people in Charlottesville. I just don't have the energy to go make friends.

    Yes.I'm a hermit.

I'm working all weekend and most of next week. That is what I get for taking 2 days off in a row. It was worth it. I've been a moody troll and really could have lost my job if I was at work this week.

  6. Well first of all, I'm really intrigued by some of those book choices. I tend to jump around in my library selections and these seem like some great subjects to venture after my current list runs out! Secondly, I LOVE the direction the blog is going in- so much more simple and clean. I think when a blog looks like that people forget what the blog looks like and just get lost in the content, you know? I respect your branching out to try a few new skills! It's not always something that works though, so it's good that you recognize it without being frustrated with it (well, I'm assuming that I guess).

  7. This week definitely flew by! I can't believe it's March, but I'm ready for Spring!
I agree about the friend thing. I'm still good friends with my high school bestie, but I don't have too many other friends. I'm okay with that, but I can see how hard it would be to find some one you can truly call a best friend. We're close with a lot of our family, so we spend time with them instead of with friends.

  8. My boyfriend makes soap! He uses a great website SoapCalc.com, i believe, to measure out his ingredients. Once you figure out what you want to put in there it isn't so hard! You can do it with just oils you can find in the grocery store! The lye is the only part that scares me, but as long as you're careful it's fine. :)

    1. Yup, the lye would be kind of scary LOL! Maybe one day I will take the time to learn. It still interests me, just not right now.
